Part of She's Arkansas Heritage Collection, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock was founded by eight physicians in 1879. Part of the University of Arkansas System, UAMS was first housed in the Sperindo Restaurant and Hotel in downtown Little Rock and for a time, it was located in the Old Statehouse. The hospital’s continually expanding campus on West Markham in downtown Little Rock dates to 1956.
