Big Dam Bridge
A nature break for bikers, hikers, walkers, joggers, and runners, the Big Dam Bridge is dog-friendly and stroller sociable too! As its name suggests, it is one BIG bridge – 4226 feet long, 90-feet high, and 14-feet wide – and it crosses a dam, the Murray Lock and Dam. It also spans the Arkansas River, connecting Little Rock and North Little Rock, is part of the Arkansas River Trail, and it was built expressly for pedestrians and bicycles (one of the longest such bridges in North America).
Benches and binoculars equip 8 scenic stops along the bridge’s span, a place from which to take in postcard panoramas of the Arkansas River and the Murray Lock and Dam and get a peek at the peak of Pinnacle Mountain. The binoculars (or a telephoto lens) bring birds and wildlife into view and if your timing is right, you might catch a river barge traversing the lock. At dusk, the Big Dam Bridge offers up sumptuous sunset views and lights up in red, green, yellow and blue.
Good to Know
You can also reach the bridge from 4000 Cooks Landing Road in North Little Rock.
